“La Puente city officials said White House’s latest threats to defund cities that do not cooperate with immigration authorities would in no way change the so-called “sanctuary” city’s approach to policing in the community.
“If Attorney General Jeff Sessions doesn’t like sanctuary cities I have two words for him, ‘Lo siento’,” said La Puente City Manager David Carmany, referring to Sessions’ comments to reporters Monday that local jurisdictions must prove compliance with immigration law before they can be eligible for Justice Department grants. “We will not be bullied by this threat.”
Carmany said these types of policies are important for a city like La Puente, which has a population of about 40,000 and is majority Latino.”
